Road works too slow Concern for dementia program

VicRoads road work operations will slow over the coming months with Main Neerim Rd improvement works at Drouin amongst several under winter suspension.

VicRoads regional director Scott Lawrence advised motorists of a reduction in activity across Gippsland as road works stop temporarily over winter.

“Cold temperatures and wet weather conditions mean that the majority of road construction and resealing works cannot occur over the coming months,” said Mr Lawrence. “As a result many road project sites across the region will be temporarily suspended until later in the year, with only minor works occurring during this time.”

He added that unfortunately the wet and cold conditions also cause damage to road surfaces, which means the community may notice more potholes.

“Under these conditions we can only carry out temporary repairs, such as pothole filling, until we can return during the warmer weather and properly repair the road,” he said.

“Winter can also be a hazardous time on our roads and I would like to urge motorists to slow down, take extra care and stay safe,” added Mr Lawrence.

Current projects affected by winter suspension include road safety improvement works along Main Neerim Rd near Drouin and construction of an overtaking lane on the Strzelecki Highway.
