What benefit towers?

Landowners be aware. If you get a telecommunication tower built on your property, you may no longer be able to insure against any claims for damages which may possibly be caused by electromagnetic radiation (EMR).

Perhaps you could ask NBN Co if they will insure you.

Lloyds of London has now excluded any liability coverage for injuries, directly or indirectly arising out of, resulting from or contributed to by electromagnetic f ields, electromagnetic radiation, electromagnetism, radio waves or noise.

In response to a request for clarification, this was received on February 18, 2015 from CFC Underwriting LTD, London, UK agent for Lloyds: “The Electromagnetic Fields Exclusion (Exclusion 32) is a General Insurance Exclusion and is applied across the market as standard.

The purpose of the exclusion is to exclude cover for illnesses caused by continuous long-term non-ionizing radiation exposure i.e. through mobile phone usage.” If you would like more details, google “EMR aware newsletter March 2015”.

Governments and the Telcos would have us believe that their towers have no adverse health effects or that any effects are well within the safety limits. Is the EMR from telecommunications towers different from the EMR from mobile phone usage? In what way?

Do any of you remember similar denials by industry and governments of dangers associated with environmental lead, asbestos, or tobacco.

Why would a leading insurer have such an exclusion if there were no risks associated with EMR?

According to a letter received by residents close to the proposed site in Neerim South, NBN Co will be applying to the shire for a planning permit for its tower.

It was claimed recently that no permit was required for the Smart Meter tower at the Warragul Golf Course. Are NBN towers different from Smart Meter towers? In what way?

NBN Co is now dotting the West Gippsland countryside with its towers and promoting those towers’ benefits at “consultation” meetings such as at Tanjil South and Neerim South this week – benefits such as faster broadband internet access.

Can we believe that these towers will in fact bring faster internet service?

Can we believe anything governments or industry say? Does it matter if we believe or not? Janet Cowden Neerim South
