Return school site to community

The active Buln Buln East Community Association is taking further steps in its campaign to have the old Buln Buln East School site returned to the local community.

Association representatives will meet with Upper House Member for Easter Victoria Harriet Shing in the coming weeks.

The association stated it already has the support of Baw Baw Shire Council in its quest.

This school was attended by members still in the district, and the community has voluntarily maintained the site for many years with well attended working bees.

The community holds popular “get togethers”, such as the annual Winter Dinner organised by the association. However, there is no focal point in the district and the association believe possession of the school site would provide that focus.

The area will have an interesting boost with the launch of a history of the area. Robin Crocker and Avon Ballantyne will launch “Running Wild in the Scrub” at Neerim North Hall on Saturday, July 4 at 2pm.

The annual Winter Dinner will be held at the Kings Arm Hotel in Neerim South on Friday, July 31 from 6.30pm.
