Air, land and water attack on Lardner Park

Lardner Park was surveyed by air, land and water in a survey conducted over Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd May 2015 by Taylors, a medium sized Melbourne based firm offering services to the land development industry.

The 120 hectare property was mapped using UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) and mobile (vehicle mounted) laser scanning with the assistance of equipment vendor UPG Solutions.

Other equipment used included a remote survey boat for mapping the large dam floor, tripod mounted terrestrial scanners for mapping of buildings and conventional surveying equipment for comparison purposes.

This survey will be used for the master planning of the site by Lardner Park Events in partnership with the Association of Land Development Engineers, for tech- nical support, under a memorandum of understanding for the development of Lardner Park as an engineering centre of excellence and innovation for the benefit of Gippsland, greater Melbourne and Victoria.

The shared vision is for a ‘centre of excellence’ in areas of water sensitive urban design, sustainable civil construction, recycling and much more, whereby the industry, community, students, councils, utility authorities and farmers can improve knowledge of the management and maintenance of working examples.

The raw survey data, collected in the form of ‘point clouds’ captured using latest surveying technologies, will also be used as research material by eight final year RMIT students as part of their assessment.

This initial survey is only the beginning and Taylors is very keen to be involved.
