Brian Chapman joins Rossini concerts

Local pianist Brian Chapman will join Latrobe Chorale’s to present Rossini’s “Petite Messe Solennelle” next month.

The chorale will present two concerts, the first at St Andrews Presbyterian Church in Morwell on Saturday, July 18 and the second at Gippsland Grammar Chapel in Sale on Sunday, July 19. Both concerts start at 2pm.

Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle translates to Short Solemn Mass but choral members describe it as neither short nor solemn.

The chorale has been rehearsing since the beginning of February and will be joined by two pianists - Brian Chapman and Anne Doherty - as well as vocal soloists Esther Capitanio (soprano), Katherine Hood (mezzo), Ian Moore (tenor) and Ross de Vent (bass).

This will be Ross’ first appearance with the chorale as a soloist. He sings regularly in the choir of St Mark’s Fitzroy where he is also the cantor.

Chorale members have enjoyed rehearsing this work and described it as beautiful, spectacular, brilliant and uplifting.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for concession and free for under 16s.
