SERVICE TO GARFIELD HONOURED
Major contributions by several people to the Garfield district have been permanently recognised at a new memorial in the town’s gardens in Main St.
The memorial built by Cardinia shire council has room for many additional commemorative plaques.
The first two installed (pictured at left) recognise founding members of the Garfield branch of the Country Women’s Association and a local historian and long-serving scout master.
Kate Hourigan, Agnes Towt and Agnes Tutton, the foundation members of the CWA in 1931, all died over a three-year period from 1947-1950.
The second plaque recognises “a lifetime of community service” by Mr C.W. (Bill) Parish who died in 1994, aged 80.
