No joy in early games

The lead-up games at Western Park on Saturday held no joy for Warragul.

The Gulls are no longer fielding an Under 18 side this year and its two other sides were on the end of solid defeats at the hands of Traralgon.

The Under 16s showed some abilities and never gave up against one of the competition’s top sides.

They lacked the quality up forward to put a score on the board as the Maroons posted 13-15 to no score.

Despite the scoreline there were some commendable efforts by the Gulls’ players with Kim Drew, Jacob Walker, Nathan Tutton, Matthew Hobbs and Boeden Fries to the forefront. The Warragul reserves’ side was again makeshift. Hopes that withdrawing the Under 18 reserves would lead to stronger player numbers for the reserves haven’t yet eventuated.

Quite a few whose better football days are behind them donned the Gulls’ colours to help make up numbers although never providing much opposition to a Traralgon side that won 28-10 to 1-1.
