KIDD KEEN TO GO ON

Warragul senior football coach Steve Kidd says he is keen to reach agreement with the club as soon as possible about continuing next year.

And president Chris Blackwood at the weekend indicated he didn’t see any reason Kidd wouldn’t be at the helm again in 2016 if he wanted.

In another good sign for the Gulls Kidd said he was “pretty sure” Brad Scalzo, last year’s best and fairest and a strong favourite to take out the award again this year, would also be staying on.

Blackwood said Kidd had hands on experience at Narre Warren in then Casey-Cardinia League, as an assistant coach to former St Kilda player Austin Jones, in building a club that was “down and out” into one that achieved sustained success.

Kidd said that in addition to retaining Scalzo he would aim to consolidate the younger players at the club and bring in some senior players that live locally or were originally from the Warragul area.

He told guests at the club’s sponsors’ luncheon on Saturday that building the club would take time and needed to run its course.

“A fair bit of work has already gone in to getting the Under 18s up and running again next year,” he said.

Kidd said he was happy to deal with the present situation where Warragul had half a dozen players on the list of Gippsland Power TAC Cup side.

“You view it from the position that they’ll come back to the club in coming years,” he said.
