EDFL players selected for higher honours

Five players from the Ellinbank and District Football League have been selected in the preliminary squad for the Vic Country 2 side.

Reigning west division premier Cora Lynn has three players picked in the squad, while Buln Buln’s Mat Gray has again been selected for higher honours.

Longwarry’s Tye Holland has also been selected in the preliminary squad.

Coach John Cossar and his team of selectors revealed their squad, which includes players from 18 different leagues.

The squad will eventually be trimmed to 22 in the lead-up to the match, with trainings to be held on consecutive Sundays.

Vic Country 2 will take on a representative side from the Victorian Amateur Football Association on July 11 at Bendigo’s Queen Elizabeth Oval.

The match will kick off at 1.10pm, following the clash between Vic Country U19s and VAFA U19s at 10.15am, and act as the curtain raiser to the Vic Country No.1 v VAFA encounter at 4.05pm.

Vic Country No.2 has won the past two encounters against VAFA (Prem - Div 4), securing a thrilling one-point victory in 2013 and powering to an easy triumph in 2014.

Meanwhile, players who represented the EDFL at under 16 level for the country championship match at Maryborough will also represent the league at a junior carnival.

The EDFL will send the team to compete against the Gippsland, Mid Gippsland and Alberton leagues in a round robin tournament.

The EDFL have elected to not send its under 18 team for the tournament.

EDFL players in squad: Ricky Clark, Nathan Muratore, Ryan Gillis (Cora Lynn), Mat Gray (Buln Buln), Tye Holland (Longwarry).
