In only their first year of operation; Meluca Group’s decision to enter the Awards was driven by their strategy of developing their business through regional promotion.

However, Luke and Melissa are first and foremost residents of Baw Baw and, winning Regional Development Victoria’s accolade for their contribution to enhancing the Shire’s environmental sustainability, was most welcome.

Subscribing to Victoria’s “Towards Zero Waste Strategy,” they have set themselves a minimum overall 80% recycle target within the short to medi- um-term. Meeting this target will require an estimated total investment of K$800 in new and additional plant and equipment to improve both the capacity and efficiency of their operations.

Particularly targeting household waste, they are also assessing Energy from Waste (EfW).

With several plants already established or proposed throughout Australia, this technology offers a highly efficient means of converting waste material, currently destined for landfill, into energy and appears destined to transform waste management in Australia.
