John White and Graham Austin have won the Stroud trophy.

In a hard fought contest in which all four players contributed at different stages, they defeated Matt Guy and Ryan Hammond 2/1.

The turning point in the match came after the 14th when Guy’s superb tee shot resulted in a win and reduced the lead to just one.

John White provided the answer. He nailed three clutch putts. All were makeable, none were gimmees.

When he won the 17th the prospect of a play-off was averted with two worthy champions.

The win capped a good competition for Austin. The previous week his eagle on the 18th propelled his team into the final.

He said his 145-metre approach shot was better than any of his five holes-in-one.

In the aggregate 4BBB victory went to Gavan Feaver (40) and Dean O’Brien (38) for 78.

Runners-up on countback with 76 were Paul Davie (40) and Tony Farugia (36).

Nearest the pins f ifth Phil Adams, eighth Dean Robbins, 10th Peter Downward, 14th and pro pin Shawn Coombs.

On Wednesday promising junior Marcus Foote had a day out.

It was played off the white markers but his 45 made him a convincing winner of A grade.

More impressively he shot 67 off the stick. Ray Haley won B grade with 42. Down the line balls Greg Street 40, Kevin Cooper 40, Jason Stirzaker 40, Bob Ross 40, Ray Morgan 39, Barry Beechey 39 and Noel Brereton 39.
